Take action
with us
Over the past 20 years, we’ve witnessed the incredible power of collective action. Women, girls, trans, and intersex people across Asia are creating lasting change in their communities, weaving together innovative strategies that transform lives and build stronger societies for everyone.
As we look towards the future, here are the opportunities before us:
High demand, high impact:
We receive applications in multiple languages from passionate women, girls, trans, and intersex people ready to create change. The enthusiasm and innovation we see proves that transformation is not just possible—it’s happening right now.
Proven model:
Our flexible, trust-based approach empowers locally-rooted partners to adapt, innovate, and respond to their communities’ most pressing needs and achieve real outcomes. This agility makes every grant more effective.
Strategic positioning:
Women’s rights receive only 0.13% of the total Official Development Assistance from governments around the world (AWID 2021). In this context, women’s funds like WFA uniquely reach communities often overlooked by traditional funding, ensuring resources flow directly to those creating change from the ground up.
Transform potential into reality:
70% of innovative initiatives are currently waiting for funding—WFA can currently only support 30% of the inspiring applications it receives. What’s more, 24% of current partners have no confirmed funding source outside of WFA.
When you support grassroots organisations, your contribution scales impact, creates ripple effects and helps entire communities.

Thank you to our partners and donors who’ve made the work possible.
We stand on the shoulders of giants. Special gratitude to our founding directors: Prof. Savithri Goonesekera, Sapna Pradhan, Sara Hossain, Priya Paul, Suneeta Dhar and Rukhshanda Naz. We also acknowledge the valuable contribution of all our former board members to the growth and strengthening of WFA. A special shout out to our current board members.
Deep gratitude to former Executive Director Dr. Hiranthi Wijemanne (2004-2008) for laying the institutional foundation of WFA (then known as South Asia Women’s Fund). Words are not enough for former Executive Director Tulika Srivastava (Jul 2010 – June 2022), whose visionary leadership steered a significant phase in WFA’s journey.
To all our advisors, friends, allies and cheerleaders: thank you for your unwavering support. Special thanks to Vanita Mukherjee, Pramada Menon, Jael Siliman, Niti Saxena, Shanthi Dairiam, Lucia Carrasco, Nidhi Goyal, Emilienne de leon, Alex Garita, Linda To, Maria Bobenrieth, the Prospera Network of Women’s Funds – the list goes on!
Puja Roy and Susana George, who – though no longer with us – continue to shine their light on us. We also thank our grant advisors for their time and expertise in shaping our grantmaking and ensuring we shift power and center the communities we support. We also honour the memory of Mark Chann Sita, a fierce feminist and beloved friend whose commitment to collective power continues to guide us.
This work would not be possible without the commitment and passion of the amazing team at WFA. To all former team members, thank you for being part of our journey.
To all our funding partners: thank you for partnering with us in working towards our shared vision of gender equality and strengthening feminist movements in Asia.
And lastly to all our partners, current and former: we are not relevant without your activism and commitment to social justice and human rights. Gratitude is not enough for what you do for the communities and movements, resisting and pushing forward on the frontlines.
