Leading from the South

Leading from the South (LFS) is an alliance of four women funds from across Africa, Asia, and Latin America that are united by the commitment to advance gender justice across the Global South. As part of this consortium, WFA, along with the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), International Indigenous Women’s Forum-AYNI Fund (FIMI), Fondo de Mujeres del Sur (FMS) have worked together since 2016 as the first and only consortium of women’s funds that is entirely led by women from the Global South.

Through the LFS grantmaking programme, WFA have supported organisations and networks led by women, girls, trans, and intersex people in Asia to address diverse issues and build cross-movement solidarity for gender justice. Our support spans across various thematic areas including: Gender Based Violence (GBV), Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights  (SRHR), climate justice and economic justice.

    Resistance, Resilience, and Care

A cross-regional convening with global South activists.

In October 2023, after six years of collective effort, organised by LFS and hosted by WFA, a cross-regional convening on Resistance, Resilience, and Care, brought together over 50 feminist activists from 26 countries across the Global South. This vital space allowed women’s rights defenders and grassroots leaders to reflect on frontline activism and build cross-border solidarity, especially in contexts where access to such convenings is often out of reach.

Holding the Lines, Building Futures: Global South Feminists in Turbulent Times
